Day Fifteen: SWAAG One, Tree Nil
So just one more day returfing and then it is all over... or so everyone thought last night. Sadly, a tree on Hard Stiles had other ideas and decided to topple over in the night, blocking access to the site from the Reeth side. Some people managed to get round via Richmond (Downholme Bridge also being closed) and some walked all the way. With reduced numbers today and after a rainy night, it was a tiring and muddy finish to the dig.
Big Willy and his JCB helped things along considerably: he has been an absolute star. Big thanks also to the slightly smaller but nevertheless heroic Tommy for getting all the equipment and tools down off the site in his glorious red landy.
Although the dig is now over, this blog is set to continue for a while longer, also our Twitter account @archaeology_s has fresh tweets daily; stay tuned!
