Geology Complete section through the Great Limestone revealed at The Trough, a fine fault controlled gorge cut by Sleightholme Beck. The Great limestone is overlain by black shales with lingula band close to the base.
Record Name Sleightholme Beck, Trough Heads. A walk beside this fine limestone gorge.
Record Description The water worn limestone features of this fine stream cut gorge were seen at their very best during this walk. Sleightholme Beck was reduced to a trickle by recent drought conditions. This allowed the polished limestone features usually obscured by torrent conditions to be admired.
The inaccessible limestone cliff lined gorge provides security for a rich flora with many fine specimen trees including one exceptionally large yew tree.
