|The Swaledale Project: 2013 Excavations|
A members only excavation at Hagg Farm on the glacial mound close to our main settlement site will take place from the beginning of April. Completed.
The main SWAAG excavation this year will take place between June 10th and June 21st. (Note: Sat/Sun 15 and 16th are not formal dig days, but if they are the only days you can come then there may be some activity. Please enquire). It will be led by Archaeological Services Durham University (ASDU) on a fascinating Romano-British site at Hagg Farm, Fremington, Reeth, where we will be excavating what we believe is the main settlement platform. So far this high status settlement appears have some unique structures which we hope to elucidate further [See last years dig blogs: Dig 1 Dig2]. This excavation is open to non-members whether experienced or not. Guidance will be given to those who have not excavated before. We have to make a charge for SWAAG excavations that are professionally lead to help towards covering the cost. This is £5/day for non-members and £3/day for members. Membership is currently £20/annum.
Non-members must book ahead just in case it is over subscribed. Please use the Contact page.
Local accommodation is available here. Dig car parking location and walking route to dig site.
If you just want to just view the excavation, and to be shown around by a SWAAG member, then that too can be accommodated by arrangement at a cost of £5/person.
